Is this woman for real? Are you sick and tired of hearing about The Proverbs 31 Woman?
Do You Hate Her?
I’ve been trying to be like the Proverbs 31 woman for years. I patterned the way I cared for my children and my first husband after her and he left after 21 years of marriage. I was exhausted, to say the least. After all, she isn’t one woman but an ideal given to a young king as advice on choosing a wife. Are you sick of hearing about the Proverbs 31 woman? However, I believe God honored my choices, my attempts to be a good wife and gave me a wonderful new life as a wife.
I’ve relaxed my homemaking a bit or maybe I’m just more experienced and have better systems like my Home Inventory and Purchasing System in place. It could also be a different season of life with my kids grown. I try to balance my life out better and I have a happier marriage. The Proverbs 31 woman is a study of balance. She works in the home and outside the home. She looks after her family and the poor. She also takes the time to look after herself and dresses well.
I was so busy trying to do everything she did, I forgot to look at everything written here. This study is very thorough and helped me see things I’d never noticed before.
I’m Learning to Like the Proverbs 31 Woman
I liked this Proverbs 31 woman study I did with Courtney at WomenLivingWell.org as she makes some wonderful points. For instance, Proverbs 31 was a list of attributes of an ideal wife that a noble mother gave to her royal son. He would definitely be looking for the cream of the crop to be his queen..Another point I loved was some of her duties were lifetime tasks and not all tasks she accomplished every day.
She would also have a house filled with servants. Our homes are filled with appliances instead.

Two more points were that working late into the night by a burning lamp meant much earlier than we think of with our electric lights and she wouldn’t have had the transportation and modern stores we enjoy.
Courtney also highlighted that the attitude of joy and eagerness to serve because of her love of the Lord gave the Proverbs 31 woman an inner beauty that’s worth striving for. I won’t go over everything as I want to encourage you to do the whole study. It’s five days and includes an e-book, journal if you want it, and videos.
I Recommend You Use This Proverbs 31 Woman Study
This was a well-written study and I highly recommend it if you haven’t done it already. It’s just 5 days and includes video, e-book and even a journal. I’ll be posting links to other studies she does on my facebook page.
Finding Time for Devotions
I posted at the beginning of the year; I’d be trying to make a habit of my own daily devotions this year. My husband and I have now established our couple’s devotion time after 3 years and it’s been a blessing. I haven’t had as much success with my own time.
I’ve tried using my afternoon break but something always comes up to get in the way. I know it’s the enemy as I can find time for many other tasks. As soon as it’s spending time with God or working for His glory in any way, the time flies away.
I’ve also tried a few different study methods and none have been interesting enough for me to stay with and make routine. I’ve read my Bible through several times and done several different kinds of studies over the years. The Proverbs 31 woman was interesting enough to keep me excited to study each day.
I tried morning as soon as my husband leaves for work as I no longer have kids at home. I have to do my devotions before I start any other chore or it won’t get done. I have one week of consistency which is not enough to be a new habit. I’ll start on Monday going through the Song of Solomon with WomenLivingWell.org. I’m hoping by the time we finish that exciting book my habit will be established and I can choose other studies.
What do You Need to Find Time For?
What is it you put aside easily? Is it housework or kitchen chores? Thinking of them as loving gestures to the ones you love and performing them with joy in your heart will help. Does it help you to sing as you work? Our God knows these are menial and uninteresting tasks. He was a carpenter. He knows what doing the same tasks over and over feels like. He also knows the satisfaction of a job well done.
After you read about the Proverbs 31 woman, what areas of your life are you ready to work on? Remember to tackle one thing at a time. Trying to make too many changes at once is too hard for anyone. God will help you find the way and He’s willing to give us time to accomplish our changes.
I’ll be sharing some of my systems that simplify homemaking in future articles. Here’s the first one I wrote about my Home Inventory and Purchasing System
