How Does God Make His Presence Known?
Are You Open to Feeling, Seeing and Hearing God?
Are you hurting and lonely? Bitter and filled with unforgiveness? Living in guilt, shame or blame? Is your relationship with God on the rocks?
How does God make His presence known when you’ve unplugged yourself from feeling Him?
I’ve been there. Most of us have.
I was angry with God for letting me down and my relationship with Him was hurting as much as my marriage. I’m glad He showed Himself to me when I was so confused. I wrote an article about guilt and shame not coming from God and how it can separate you from Him.
You can read my story here. It shows how even in my sorry state, God made His presence known to me and He answered the prayer of my heart that I wasn’t even asking.
Feeling the Presence of God
It was so obvious to me. It felt like no one else was present and God was speaking to me alone and telling me just what I needed to hear. Yes, it was through a sermon and not a large voice from the sky but it was so personal.
Sometimes God speaks to us through others and sometimes directly into our minds. Have you ever had a thought you knew was from God? Have you had visions or dreams?
He can also give us physical evidence of His presence. I’ve felt His loving arms around me. He’s awakened me from a deep sleep…sometimes in a sudden jolt when I needed to be awake and sometimes gently with a quiet answer I’d been waiting to hear.
It may be something very ordinary in an unusual time or place. God can make it very clear that He’s at work.
I remember a time when my new husband was having difficulties and wanted some counselling. The only help we could afford was through a program from his employer. I wasn’t keen on secular help and prayed that he would get good advice. When we walked up to the appointment, the sign on the lawn said Christian Counselling Centre. When I asked the counsellor about the sign, she said they were all Christians but had to get non-Christian sponsors and hadn’t removed the sign. She added they hadn’t had any complaints about the sign only positive comments. I took it as a “sign”.
The Freedom of Relationship with God
When your relationship with God is healthy, you’ll hear, feel, see and sense God in your daily life. In the small insignificant details and in the big overall picture of your life.
I feel Him in the garden. The wonder of His creation is so obvious to me there.
I hear Him in the silence of my quiet times. I see Him everywhere when my eyes are open to Him.

When I was angry and doubting His purpose, I was so alone. Where was God? Why wasn’t He helping me? The tears flowed freely and often.
I was the one feeling abandoned. He hadn’t abandoned me at all. He was healing my heart and preparing me for the gift of a new marriage.
When He knew I was ready, He let me know what He’d been doing for me.
Living in God’s Love
God showed Himself and His heart to me in a very profound experience on that day. I’ve had other times when He’s made His presence known. Some are very shareable and I’m sure you’ll read about them as I continue to share. Some are very personal and impossible to describe. Some are private between God and me.
